Our Partners
We believe in the power of music to transform young people's lives. Music has the power to encourage and nurture talent; a power that builds confidence and self-esteem; a power that opens new horizons, raises aspirations and helps individuals express who they are. This is where Youth Music comes in. Since 1999, we have provided over 2 million children and young people with free access to a range of music-making projects and activities. For many, being given the chance to experience the power of music has been a life changing experience. Because of Youth Music there are now more high quality music-making opportunities for a wider range of children and young people than ever before, from learning rock guitar or beatboxing to classical violin and everything in between. To deliver that mission we are building a full programme of activity and development which consists of four areas:
The Sound and Music website provides a unique concentration of resources, with opportunities for artists, composers and practitioners to upload their work via our on-line community, as well as comprehensive listings of events, video, multi-media, and details of all Sound and Music activities.
Many Devon Music Service initiatives demonstrate effective ways of bringing communities together and supporting children and young people through transfer stages. Working in partnership with other organisations enables the Music Service to markedly increase breadth and Devon Music Service received a very positive report from an evaluation of the service organised by the Federation of Music Services in partnership with the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) MSEP programme in Autumn 2009. Overall, DMS received several good and outstanding judgements, including outstanding personal development and breadth, access and participation. In 2009 Devon is very proud to have picked up accolades in all three categories of the prestigious National Music Council / Music Education Council LEA awards. This brings Devon’s total to six NMC/MEC awards in the last three years, including the Major Trophy in 2007.
Our programme is inclusive, open to all regardless of musical or personal background. South West Music School is also musically inclusive – designed to identify and nurture exceptional instrumental and vocal talent from all areas of music. The only restriction to our programme is the need to possess very high levels of musicianship and commitment. We are a virtual school, not based in one location, working across the whole region. We offer a new learning experience individually tailored to the students’ specific musical needs. They learn and develop in their own planned time therefore enabling them to continue to participate, as much as possible, in their current musical life.
The Feeder Scheme is a year-long programme of 6 workshop days spread across the year and the region covering topics such as improvisation, performance practise, listening & rhythm and performance health. The Core Programme has a 3 stream programme through which students receive mentoring, individual tuition and development and residential opportunities, plus the opportunity to be involved in programmes and projects delivered by the partnership. The key is that students determine their programme of individual learning so that we can cultivate their ideas, potential and talent.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in evening activities. The Music Service currently offers Theory and Aural classes, Wind Bands, Orchestras, Brass Bands, Big Band and Guitar and Percussion groups. Youth Music is the UK's largest children's music charity providing funding for music projects and activities. 
Sound and Music is the UK’s landmark organisation for new music and sound. Open for business since October 2008, we are the result of bringing together the British Music Information Centre, Contemporary Music Network, Society for the Promotion of New Music and Sonic Arts Network.
It is our ambition to raise the profile of new music and sound in the public consciousness, building support and audiences for innovative work. To achieve that goal, we champion innovation, learning, and artistry through:
Devon Music Service promotes the uptake of musical instruments and singing. We offer Continuous Professional Development opportunities for music educators and maintain a wide variety of instruments to support whole class teaching and individual hire. We also offer a variety of ensemble experiences to support students at all levels of development and signpost to local and national opportunities. Our work is student centred, we strive to raise expectations and improve standards and we encourage people to enjoy achieving.

Arranging ‘mini-tours’ for international artists to visit Devon schools and communities has also proved to be a very successful method of inspiring both young players/singers and adults. Music Development Leader outreach is significant in linking schools and local communities to the bigger picture and helping local ideas to flourish. 
South West Music School is part of a national network of Centres of Advanced Training supported by the Department for Children, Schools & Families Music and Dance Scheme for exceptionally talented young musicians aged between 8 and 18. 
South West Music School provides a package of specialist educational support through a 2 stage programme; the Feeder Scheme and the Core Programme.
Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival is an annual, international festival of contemporary and new music, that takes place over 10 days consisting of approximately 50 events, including concerts, music-theatre, dance, multimedia, talks and film, with a related Learning and Participation programme devised and implemented to reflect the programme and respond to 
regional need.
Kings Place Music Foundation (KPMF) is the charity set up to run the music spaces at Kings Place. Gifted with the performing and back of house areas on a long lease for a peppercorn rent, KPMF offers access to creative spaces and activities for both new and established audiences at affordable prices and aims to deliver a 
very rich and busy music programme financed by a combination of ticket sales, and the hire of the excellent Kings Place facilities for rehearsals, recordings and conferences. Kings Place receives no public funding. 
Based at Thurcroft Junior School, the Rotherham Schools Music Service makes a vital contribution to the education and personal development of young people across the borough, helping them to learn specific musical skills, increase their confidence and gain self-discipline. The Music Service has a presence in all of the authorities schools and offers whole class instrumental and vocal tuition, small group lessons and individual lessons as appropriate. A wide range of instruments are taught from percussion, brass, woodwind and string families.
The Service offers tuition in schools, advice on buying instruments and the acquisition of instruments, parental support, music centre opportunities, subsidised tuition and assessments, examinations and report procedures for children in Year 3 onwards.
